Privacy Policy
Last updated 2 October 2026
Holy History collects nothing on its own. The only thing it ever sends anywhere with something of yours in it is feedback you choose to write and send.
There is no account, no sign-up, and no login. The app contains no advertising, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no third-party tracking of any kind.
What the app keeps on your device
Two small things, held in the app's own private storage on your device and never sent anywhere:
- Where you stopped reading: the book, chapter, and translation, so the app can offer to pick it back up.
- Which translation you prefer: KJV or ESV.
Uninstalling the app removes both. There is no server behind Holy History, so there is nowhere else for either of them to be.
The app holds no credentials of any kind. An earlier version let you store your own ESV API key; it now uses its own, so there is no such field, and a key saved by that version is deleted the next time the app starts.
Permissions
Holy History requests no Android runtime permissions: no location, no contacts, no camera, no microphone, no storage, no identifiers. It declares only internet access, used for the two purposes described next.
When the app uses the network
The King James Version is bundled inside the app. Reading it never touches the network, and the app is fully usable with no connection.
If you read a chapter in the English Standard Version,
the app makes a request to Crossway's ESV API at
https://api.esv.org containing the passage you asked for
and the app's own API key. That request carries no name, email, account,
advertising ID, or other device identifier. Crossway's own privacy
policy governs what they do with the requests they receive:
crossway.org/privacy.
ESV text that comes back is held in memory for the current session only. It is never written to your device, and it is gone when the app closes.
If you send feedback from Settings → Feedback, the app sends what you wrote to Mission Control, a server run by Holy History's developer to collect feedback on their apps. With your message go the kind of feedback you picked (an idea, a problem, or something else), the app's version, your platform (web, iOS or Android) and the app's language. Your email address is sent only if you typed one in, so that a reply is possible. Nothing is sent until you press Send, and nothing is ever sent in the background.
Like any server, Mission Control sees the IP address a request comes from. It doesn't keep it: it stores only a keyed one-way hash of it, used to stop the form being flooded. What you send is read by the developer, used only to improve the app and to answer you if you asked for an answer, and is never sold or shared. To have something you sent deleted, write to the address at the bottom of this page.
Children
The app collects nothing on its own from anyone, and that includes anyone under 13. The feedback form asks for no personal information. An email address is optional. It shows no ads and has no social or messaging features.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the revised policy is published at this same address before the change reaches the app.
